“We shall never achieve harmony with the land, any more than we shall achieve absolute justice or liberty for people. In these higher aspirations, the important thing is not to achieve but to strive.”

-Aldo Leopold

Justice Project Overview

The senior curriculum first semester at Animas High School revolves around the principles of justice, encompassing environmental, social, political, and racial justice within today's society.

Through months of learning about different philosophies of justice and how they appear in our society today, students create a project of their own to bring about awareness and change concerning one injustice they are passionate about.

Our group is composed of students who are deeply concerned about environmental justice and climate change. We desire to create something beneficial for the community, that will help bring awareness to the detrimental effects of wildfires on recreational land which lowers air quality. Follow us through our mission to bring awareness of this problem to the public, and our research efforts in discovering ways to counteract air pollution.

The Mural

To raise money and inform the public in Durango, Colorado, five student artists designed and painted a mural displayed in the window of Beads and Beyond during the month of December. With a QR code on the window the general public could donate to planting trees and Conservation Colorado, charity to create a healthier environment

The funds generated will be used for both planting trees in the Durango, Colorado area to replace trees that were decimated by fires these past years, as well as to the Conservation Colorado, charity to create a healthier environment. This charity focuses on generating clean air for the Colorado community. Along with a local charity, our group is also donating funds to a national environmental group, NRDC, focused on working toward limiting existing air pollution. We implore you to donate to our project. Learn and make a change with us, as we further the awareness of these pressing issues and work to repair them. Thank you for your time, and concern for the future of our air and planet.
